The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed its first chargesheet in PNB scam today against diamantaire Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi in the multi-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case.
The Rs 13,400 crore PNB scam involving Nirav Modi made headlines and exposed the corruption within state-owned banks.
CBI is all set to file its first chargesheet today Usha Ananthasubramaniam, the MD, and CEO of PNB will also be named in the chargesheet, according to sources. Currently, Usha is the MD and CEO of the Allahabad Bank. Following this, it is also to be noted that the accused would not be able to sought for bail.
Usha Ananthasubramanian, Managing Director and CEO of the Allahabad Bank, who held the same position at Punjab National Bank earlier, had been named as an accused along with other senior officials, according to the chargesheet. She was MD and CEO of the Punjab National Bank in 2016.
Sources also said at least three senior officials of PNB, who were earlier questioned by the agency, will also be named in the chargesheet.
According to sources, these officials did not comply with the Reserve Bank of Indias (RBI) circulars issued on the Society for Worldwide Inter-bank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT) control system in 2016.
