Kathua rape trial: Accused ask for narco test, next hearing on April 28

The eight people accused in the gruesome Kathua rape and murder case against an eight-year-old girl are pleaded not guilty today and asked the district and session judge for narco test.

One of the accused after hearing at the district court said, "Everything will be clear after Narco test."

District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Gupta has directed the state Crime Branch to give copies of the chargesheet to the accused and fixed April 28 as the next date of hearing.

According to the chargesheets filed by the crime branch, the abduction, rape, and killing of the girl was part of a carefully planned strategy to remove the nomadic community from the area. A separate chargesheet was filed for the juvenile. The chargesheet also names investigating officers head constable Tilak Raj and Sub-Inspector Anand Dutta, who allegedly took Rs 4 lakh from Ram and destroyed crucial evidence.

While seven accused were presented before the district and sessions judge, the eighth juvenile arrested in Kathua case has moved bail application before the judicial magistrate which is scheduled to be heard later today.

As the trial began inside the court, Ram's daughter Madhu Sharma protested outside, demanding a CBI probe. The case has become the focal point of outrage across the country.
