Anil Deshmukh CBI Case: Defense Lawyer Daga Denied Bail by Court

A Delhi Court has denied the defense lawyer, Anand Daga’s bail plea on Wednesday. He was arrested in connection with the alleged leak of the documents in the ongoing probe of bribery and corruption charges against former Maharashtra minister, Anil Deshmukh.

The special CBI judge, Vimal Kumar Yada, rejected Daga’s bail application and noted that “... the investigation is still inconclusive. Recoveries connect applicant accused with alleged offenses and given the fact that the applicant accused is a lawyer himself… and if facing serious allegations; it cannot be ruled out that he may try to influence the investigation…”

Deshmukh is under investigation for bribery and corruption charges by CBI. According to the allegations against him, he persuaded policemen to accept bribes in his name and exerted his influence in their postings and transfers.

Daga and CBI Sub-Inspector Abhishek Tiwari were arrested on Saturday in connection with the same investigations. They allegedly shared information amongst themselves that compromised the probe against Deshmukh.
