Landslide in Manipur’s Tamenglong district: Nine died and seven bodies retrieved

On Tuesday, due to heavy rainfall in three places of Tamenglong district Manipur nine people have died out of which seven bodies of the victims have been retrieved by rescue officials.

N Niren Singh, Chief Minister said that the rescue operations were underway. Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region Mr Jitendra Singh also tweeted and said that he was saddened to hear the news about the deaths due to landslides.

Several cases of landslides due to heavy rains have been reported since the beginning of monsoon. On Sunday, due to heavy and non-stop rains have caused landslides on NH- 2 (National Highway) which had affected traffic along the Kohima-Dimapur road.

NH-2 is the major highway for public carriers as trucks pass the highway, the landslide occurred on NH-29 below the Avile petrol pump was completely cut-off wherein the another landslide occurred in Hospital Colony.
