Supreme Court bangs LG on Delhi Garbage: ‘You think you’re superpower, but won’t do anything’

On Thursday July 12, Supreme Court bangs on LG for not taking effective measures to handle the garbage issue despite having powers over the municipal corporations.

MB Lokur and Deepak Gupta a bench of justice affronted L-G after his affidavit declared that the municipal corporations of Delhi were answerable to him.

The judges said, “You say I have the power, but you do not want to do anything. You think you are superpower; I am responsible but nobody can question.”

When Pinky Anand additional advocate refused to commit on a timeline to clean the garbage then court made the remark. She said that she would revert after seeking adequate instructions.

The bench responded, “You say the corporations are answerable to you. Tell us within how much time will you clear the sites.” “Why should the corporations be asked? You are the L-G. You should have found out by now.”

On Tuesday, the court had asked L-G, Anil Baijal to update them who was responsible for cleaning mountain of garbage at Okhla, Ghazipur and Bhalswa in Delhi.

In Delhi due to loads of garbage people are getting infected by chikungunya, malaria and dengue whereas in Mumbai even after heavy rainfall the infection is less.

On March 27, the apex court had taken strong objections to non-implementation of solid waste in the country and said that, “India will one day go down under the garbage”.

A 7 year old boy died due to dengue and five private hospitals denied for his treatment due to which his distressed parents subsequently committed suicide.
