In the first ODI at Nottingham, Virat Kohli Indian skipper praised spinner Kuldeep Yadav for setting up India’s eight-wicket victory over England on Thursday.
Kohli said, "Anything is possible with the selections for Tests and there might be a few surprises. Kuldeep is making a strong case for himself and so is Chahal. And looking at the way, the English batsmen have struggled against them, we might be tempted to do it. But the focus now is winning the next two games. Especially the next game looking at it from the series perspective."
He also added that, "Kuldeep was outstanding. To give away 25 runs and pick up 6 wickets on that kind of a wicket, I don't think I have seen a better spell of bowling in ODIs of late."
Mr Kohli has also praised his team for their performance and said that victory was asclinical as it could be and said that both the spinners were the team’s biggest weapon.
India won the match with eight wickets and 59 spare balls.
Kohli said, "When they have 10 overs (to bowl) then they know they have the skills to have an impact, Kuldeep was outstanding, I don't think I've seen a better ODI spell in a while.
"We want him confident because we know he can be a match-winner - 50 over cricket, if you don't get wickets it's very difficult."
So far Kuldeep had an outstanding tour of UK. Before picking up a five-wicket haul against England in first T20I he took 7 wickets from two T20I. After the six-wicket haul at Trent Bride ODI makes him stand in good stead when the selectors meet to pick the team for the fice-test series in England starting August 1.
Virat don’t want to reveal the information of the selected candidates so far and said, "There might be a few surprises there, we have a few days to pick the Test side”. "Looking at the England batsmen struggling we might be tempted to do that."
